Dr. Lok Huei Yap is a fully accredited Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. He has full registration with the General Medical Council, and is on the Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery. He is a member of the British Medical Association, the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons and the British Association of Plastic Surgeons (now the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons).
Dr. Yap graduated with honours MB BCh BAO from the National University of Ireland in Dublin, 1991. He completed his basic surgical training in Ireland and Hong Kong, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1995. He subsequently specialised in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, gaining the UK Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in Plastic Surgery (Intercollegiate) in 2003. He is a recipient of the British Journal of Plastic Surgery Prize, the Ethicon Foundation Fund Scholarship and the British Association of Plastic Surgeons Travelling Bursary.
Dr. Yap was appointed Consultant Plastic Surgeon at University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust in 2003. He was subsequently awarded a year-long Plastic Surgery Fellowship at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre, Houston, Texas, USA which has been consistently rated one of the best cancer centres in the United States; and most recently completed a Clinical Fellowship in Autologous Ear Reconstruction at Akiba Hospital, Tokyo, Japan, with Dr. Satoru Nagata, one of the foremost ear reconstructors in the world today.
In his NHS practice, Dr. Yap pursues an active interest in developing areas of plastic surgery including autologous ear reconstruction, complex microsurgical reconstructions of the head and neck region, and in innervated microsurgical breast reconstructions.
At University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust, Dr. Yap lectures regularly on the principles of aesthetic surgery, head and neck cancer reconstruction, and ear reconstruction, as well as on various aspects of microvascular surgery. He maintains a teaching commitment to plastic surgical trainees at a national level, and continues to present original research and audit papers at national and international meetings.
In the cosmetic sector, Dr. Yap has worked with some of the most well-known figures in UK Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and successfully completed a Clinical Fellowship in Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at the Wellington Hospital, London, UK.
Dr. Yap provides a comprehensive range of cosmetic and reconstructive procedures, including cosmetic surgery of the forehead and brow, mesotherapy, chemical and laser facial resurfacing, facelifts, cosmetic surgery of the eyelids, breast, ear, nose and face, eyelid surgery, breast uplift, enlargement (implants) and reduction, liposuction/liposculpture, abdominal and trunk reshaping, rhinoplasty / nasal reshaping.
